Ken previously worked as Senior Vice President in charge of Samsung Electronics’ Silicon Valley IP Office and has managed more than 160 intellectual property litigation matters including the Apple-Samsung litigation. He understands the litigation dynamics and what motivates the litigants to continue the fight or settle it. Ken has also extensively negotiated IP deals with high tech companies, universities, and PAEs and brings that business perspective to settlement discussions. In addition, Ken has handled many SEP/FRAND disputes and IP related antitrust matters in both litigation and regulatory contexts.
Before joining private practice, Ken served as a judicial law clerk to a federal judge and as a federal prosecutor, trying more than 50 cases as first chair. In private practice, he was a litigation partner with leading US law firms and extensively litigated intellectual property matters in US district courts and International Trade Commission. Based on his litigation and trial experience, Ken understands the strengths and weaknesses of a case and utilizes them to bring the parties to settlement.
Ken currently serves as a neutral for World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Arbitration and Mediation Center, Judge Pro Tem and Settlement Conference Officer for San Francisco Superior Court, and an arbitrator for Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). He has handled a wide array of arbitration and mediation cases including intellectual property matters, software development agreements, commercial leases and other commercial disputes. Ken is experienced in handling cases virtually on a variety of online platforms including Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
